about

A personal interpretation: 'We proceed along a musical timeline in the same time as we are all making it up, the musical references being around us both in the past and the present as we share what we are doing in a new situation with others who are doing the same but differently and thus continually modifying our own continuum.'

The modifying could be heard as others shaping what I do and so I can then perhaps discover something new, so new ideas can be revealed by the ideas of others.
Ways of hearing and responding to the music played by others was sharply evident in this quartet, as this was the first time we had played together. This was a music project orchestrated by Dag Erik who had given the idea careful thought and consideration.

The recording is the last of five concerts we had played in the same period at the end of September 2018, and perhaps because we had played four times before, the music felt good to me. The recording was basic but adequate enough to give a clear picture of the journeys taken that night in Bergen.

The large space where we played, and an outside environment where humidity levels are frequently high, meant the accompanying rain at the end of the concert provided a choral counterpoint for John's beautifully eloquent saxophone playing and contributed towards a suitably evocative finale.
